The project has planned and carried out an environmental and infra-structural rehabilitation of a section of the sixteenth-hundred Berber village of Douire<\/strong>t (Government of Tataouine) in the Tunisian Sahara, between Libya and Algeria, almost totally abandoned. <\/span><\/p>\n The ancient village became depopulated around the 60s following a modernization politics that made the population move into a new village. The ruins of the Kalaa (fortress) and of the most ancient buildings -among which the surrounding great walls- can still be found in the area. The state of abandon and the lack of ordinary maintenance, together with the severe weather conditions contributed to the urban decay of the old core of Douiret. The Associazione Giovanni Secco Suardo has been appointed by the organisation \u201cRicerca e Cooperazione\u201d to plan and carry out conservation and restoration architectonic interventions. The architectural restoring, increase of agricultural production and of local handicraft made the connection between development and existant social and cultural heritage possible. <\/span><\/p>\n The actions, aimed to the architectural renovation of Douiret, were realised by the Associazione Giovanni Secco Suardo under the direction of Prof. Walter Barbero of Politecnico di Milano and developed in two steps: in the first phase the aim was getting to know the sites though architectural measurements, historic researches and monitoring of the state of deterioration. <\/span><\/p>\n The interventions relating to the architectural recovery of Douiret, carried out byAssociazione Giovanni Secco Suardo<\/strong> under the direction of Prof. Walter Barbero<\/strong> of Politecnico di Milano and developed in two steps: in the first phase the aim was getting to know the sites though architectural measurements, historic researches and monitoring of the state of deterioration.The second phase was characterised by the renovation of some abandoned buildings, using traditional construction and production material techniques and local workers. <\/span><\/p>\n It was important to define the purposes and destinations of use of the recovered buildings: Promoter: <\/b> <\/span> Participating organizations and supporters<\/b>:<\/span> [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Social-economic valorisation of traditional residential units and the rehabilitation of agricultural techniques<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":" Il progetto ha previsto il risanamento ambientale e infrastrutturale di una parte del cinquecentesco villaggio berbero di Douiret<\/strong> (Governatorato di Tataouine) nel Sahara tunisino, tra la Libia e l\u2019Algeria, oggi quasi totalmente abbandonato.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> L\u2019antico villaggio, che si \u00e8 spopolato intorno agli anni \u201960 a seguito di una decisa politica di modernizzazione che ha concentrato la popolazione in un nuovo agglomerato urbano, conserva ancora le rovine della Kalaa (fortezza) e della pi\u00f9 antica area d\u2019abitazioni, con tracce delle mura che la proteggevano. L'abbandono del villaggio, e quindi il venir meno della quotidiana manutenzione, aggiunto al difficile clima, hanno provocato negli ultimi decenni un grave degrado alle costruzioni e agli edifici del nucleo antico di Douiret.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Attraverso gli interventi di restauro architettonico, l\u2019incremento della produzione agricola, l\u2019avvio di iniziative di artigianato, il progetto, ha promosso la formazione di un polo di sviluppo che, partendo dal patrimonio esistente, ha trovato un importante fondamento nelle radici storiche e culturali degli abitanti.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> Gli interventi relativi al recupero architettonico di Douiret, realizzati dall\u2019Associazione Giovanni Secco Suardo<\/strong> con la direzione del prof. Walter Barbero<\/strong> del Politecnico di Milano, sono stati sviluppati in due fasi: la prima, finalizzata alla conoscenza dei siti, ha previsto rilievi architettonici (realizzati grazie all\u2019intervento degli studenti della scuola Luigi Einaudi di Roma), ricerche storiche e monitoraggi del degrado; la seconda \u00e8 stata caratterizzata dal restauro di alcuni edifici abbandonati, utilizzando tecniche di costruzione e di produzione dei materiali tradizionali e maestranze locali.\u00a0 Importante \u00e8 stato definire le finalit\u00e0 e le destinazioni d\u2019uso degli edifici recuperati:\u00a0<\/span><\/p> un museo etnografico<\/span> ed una casa d\u2019accoglienza per viaggiatori (Relais), gestiti dagli abitanti, con l\u2019obiettivo di rendere il patrimonio storico fruibile da un turismo culturale, non invasivo, che rispetti l\u2019integrit\u00e0 e l\u2019identit\u00e0 del luogo.<\/span><\/p> Ente promotore: <\/b>\u00a0<\/span> Enti partecipanti e sostenitor<\/b>i:\u00a0 <\/span>
an ethnographic museum<\/span> and a hosting house<\/span> for travellers were opened in the buildings object of the project action.They are run by the locals to make the historical heritage exploited in the form of cultural tourism, in the respects of the integrity and the identity of the place.<\/p>\n
