“Patagones” Institutional strengthening and support for micro-entrepreneurship in Carmen de Patagones, Argentina

The mission took place within the framework of collaboration agreements between the non-governmental organization Ricerca e Cooperazione – Roma andAssociazione Giovanni Secco Suardo with reference to areas related to Cultural Heritage, envisaged by the project “Patagones”, co-financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Argentine counterpart represented by the Municipalidad de Carmen de Patagones.
The Association participated in the project in the planned conservation and enhancement activities in the Historic Center of the city of Carmen de Patagones, an ancient Spanish garrison and later an important commercial center towards Patagonia.

The Association has also created, together with the “Comisiòn de Gestiòn del Patrimonio Històrico y Cultural de Patagones”, a “Plan de valorizacion del centro historico y del patrimonio cultural de Carmen de Patagones, which provides methodologies and activities for the protection and enhancement of the historical and architectural heritage of the city and specific actions to be implemented in subsequent years. This document was then adopted by the Municipal Council of the city and declared, with a regular deed, of “provincial interest” by the province of Buenos Aires.

In addition to a series of conservation and restoration interventions on some public and private historic buildings and sites, training stages were held and a network of sustainable activities was launched in the Historic Centre, including with microcredits in favor of local private initiatives.
